me

My passion for painting began

with a visit to the Skagen Museum in 1966.

I couldn't tear myself away from the paintings of the Painters of Light,

so fascinated was I by the motifs and painting technique of these artists.

I wanted and had to start painting

and this fascination still drives me today.

Consequently, I moved to the far north of Germany,

where I live and work on the Danish border.

Of course, I'm in Skagen whenever I can.

My thoughts and thus my world of motifs revolve around what I experience day after day in these Nordic coastal landscapes.

The special light, the depth of the horizon and the vastness of the landscape,

the special weather and the associated dramaturgy of the events in the high sky evoke the strong impressions,

which I express in my partly figurative, semi-abstract and abstract paintings

From a technical point of view, the artists of this world were and are my teachers.

I am always looking for something new in studios, libraries, exhibitions and galleries, each of my paintings is just the beginning of a journey and that is what makes it so exciting.

I did not choose the path of becoming a full-time artist.

Even though I earned my living as a professor of business law,

painting has always remained the important and driving part of my life,

which I have been able to pursue exclusively since I left my professional career.

my paintings

I always start with a rough exploration, an arrangement of impulsively thrown shapes and colors on the canvas or whatever surface.

The impetus for this is usually an as yet unclear idea,

but the impulse to paint something in the direction of this idea is there and the rules of painting technique demand the next working steps.

In constant evaluation, I continue to develop,

discard and redesign until the moment,

where the painting shows its own special character.

Now I need courage to take the necessary steps,

to emphasize this character in the painting.

This also includes giving up detailed scenes that I have grown fond of but no longer fit in the painting process.

Once this creative act has been successfully completed, the painting process is finished.

The painting appears balanced and coherent. It almost names its title itself and

sends its viewers on their journey of experience.

reviews

Charlotte Paritzky (Director at Zidoun & Bossuyt Gallery and Co-founder of OBRA Art) (September 2024)

"You demonstrate a refined understanding of color, particularly in their nuanced use of blue shades to evoke the serenity and depth of water, sky, and atmospheric elements like rain and clouds. The light, pastel hues contribute to a calming, ethereal quality, allowing the paintings to capture a sense of tranquility and vastness. The soft, fluid forms of beaches, sea, and skies create a seamless flow within each composition. The use of acrylic works well here, especially in achieving smooth blends and delicate layers that enhance the textures of water and cloud formations. The varied sizes of the canvases, from intimate to expansive, draw the viewer into different aspects of the natural world, offering both personal and immersive experiences."

"Northern Vendsyssel's landscapes - always a new and deep impression and different lights - year by year new experiences in the landscape of Northern Vendsyssel. Hasso's landscape paintings have brought this genre into the present day.

Hasso takes all this up and is transferring it into a fascinating impulsive dialogue creating his own style of painting. In the early beginning his art was influenced by the work of the famous local artists we know since our childhood. But with time of experiencing, he set up his own autarch and strong interaction with light, forms techniques and colours in a wide northern influenced variety."
